Day 2 –Monday: Restoring Hope Through Surgery

Today marked our first day in the operating room, and with it came the beginning of countless life-changing moments. For many of our patients, this was not just another doctor’s appointment, It was the answer to months or even years of waiting, praying, and hoping for the opportunity to receive surgery. From the moment the first patients arrived, there was a sense of anticipation throughout the hospital as our team prepared to begin the day’s procedures.

Behind every successful surgery is an incredible team working together with a shared purpose. Surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, translators, volunteers, and local staff each played an essential role in providing compassionate, high-quality care. Every procedure required careful preparation, clear communication, and remarkable teamwork. Watching each person use their unique gifts in service to others was a beautiful reminder that healing is truly a collaborative effort.

Although many patients understandably arrived feeling nervous, there was also an unmistakable sense of hope. Family members waited patiently, placing their trust in the medical team and leaning on their faith during the hours apart. Volunteers spent time comforting loved ones, answering questions, and offering encouragement while patients were in surgery. Others worked behind the scenes preparing operating rooms, transporting patients, organizing supplies, and ensuring everything ran smoothly throughout the day. Every role, whether in the operating room or outside of it, contributed to changing lives.

As surgeries were completed and patients began their recovery, the atmosphere shifted from anxious anticipation to gratitude and relief. Seeing the smiles, thankful embraces, and quiet moments of joy reminded us that these procedures represent far more than medical care. They restore mobility, independence, confidence, and the opportunity for patients to return to the lives they love with renewed hope.

Today was a powerful reminder that God’s work is present in every interaction, every act of service, and every life touched through this mission. We are incredibly grateful to witness these moments and to serve alongside such a dedicated team united by compassion and faith.

As we continue with surgeries throughout the week, we look forward to meeting more patients, hearing their stories, and witnessing the lasting impact that compassionate care can have on individuals, families, and communities. Thank you for following along with our journey and keeping our team and patients in your prayers.
