Day 6 – Feb 12
In this morning’s devotional, Dr. Granberry shared a prayer from the Missionaries of Charity titled “Anyway.” It’s a good reminder not only as we wrap up the week but also as we prepare to go back to our everyday lives. It reads:
—
People are often unreasonable, irrational and self-centred; forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies; succeed anyway.
If you are honest and sincere, people may deceive you; be honest and sincere anyway.
What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight; create anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous; be happy anyway.
The good you do today, will often be forgotten; do good anyway.
Give the best you have, and it will never be enough; give your best anyway.
In the final analysis, it is between you and God; it was never between you and them anyway.

Today was another full day of physical therapy, surgeries, and the mobility clinic. We wrapped up the surgery week and the night with beautiful dinner at the Casa Santo Domingo.
This morning in our mobility clinic, a woman arrived with pins sticking out of her leg from a procedure she’d had done elsewhere. The team got creative as they came up with a solution to help support and stabilize her leg in an erect position. Upon understanding her need, Jeff McHugh quickly got to work thinking through the options based on the materials available down here. He built a custom extension on which she can rest her leg. Upon helping to assemble her new “custom ride” both Jeff and the patient were emotional as she expressed her sincere gratitude for the incredible love she was shown. Our theme this week was written across both of their faces as well as on the patient’s shirt which read “LOVE”!
Speaking of love, what better example is there of love than of a marriage? We have seven couples volunteering together this week – 6 married and 1 engaged! While some of them have medical expertise, there are many other roles for spouses/partners looking to get involved including Team Leads, Translators, Wheelchair-building at the Mobility Clinic, Spiritual Leader, and Photographer/Blogger. We love love!
Couples volunteering this week include: Dr. Briand and Katherine Parsley, Dr. Bill and Lauren Grandberry, Dr. Prisila and Shane Foss, Lucy and Jim Parker, Elizabeth and Jeff McHugh, Monica and Devon Reed, and Dr. Mark Prasarn and his fiance Kim Sirman.
Happy (almost!) Valentine’s Day!
