Day 3 (Surgery Day 1)

Today began grounded in a powerful morning devotional centered on kindness – an important reminder of why we are all here. It set the tone for the day ahead, encouraging us to lead with compassion in every interaction, no matter how busy things became. Dr. Boutros once again inspired the entire team with his words, demonstrating not only his leadership but his genuine heart for both patients and staff. His ability to bring everyone together with purpose and encouragement continues to make a lasting impact on this mission. We were also honored to have our CEO, Ben, come visit and spend time with the team, offering his support and encouragement, which meant so much to everyone .

As the first official day of surgeries got underway, the hospital quickly filled with focus and determination. Surgeons, nurses, anesthesia providers, and volunteers all worked tirelessly, moving from case to case with precision and care. Each procedure represented more than just a surgery – it was a chance to change someone’s life. The collaboration and dedication across every role made it possible to accomplish so much in a single day, and it was incredible to witness such a unified effort.

Behind the scenes, the PACU team worked just as hard, ensuring patients were safely monitored and cared for as they recovered. Their attention to detail, compassion, and constant vigilance played a crucial role in the success of the day. From managing pain to offering reassurance, they created a space where patients could begin healing with dignity and comfort.

What stood out most was the way all the hospital staff came together to support the mission teams. No matter the need – big or small – there was always someone ready to step in and help. Their teamwork, generosity, and dedication did not go unnoticed. They truly are the backbone of this effort, and working alongside such an incredible group of people made this day even more meaningful.

As We closed our day with dinner one story our CEO shared truly captured the heart behind this mission. He spoke of a woman who works with Faith in Practice who carried another woman on her back all the way into the hospital. When someone asked if the patient was her family member, she simply replied, “No, she’s my neighbor.” And when asked why she would go to such lengths, her answer was just as powerful – “It’s what God would have wanted me to do.” In that moment, she embodied the very essence of compassion and selfless love that defines this mission.
