The wheelchair clinic is life-changing. And not just for the patients. Victor’s story: Victor was playing soccer when he was caught in the crossfire of a nearby robbery and was shot in the back. At first, he did not know what had happened to him until he realized he could not move his lower body. Victor was paralyzed from the waist down and would not walk again. His life changed that day but his spirit, faith and positive attitude were strong. Victor decided to live his life to the fullest, fulfilling his role as a husband, holding down a job, swimming and even teaching Zumba from a wheelchair! He came to our clinic to replace his old, broken wheelchair. Dr. Mike Noel examined him with translation assistance from Josue Trevino. Crystal Rempfer, our occupational therapist, fitted him for a new wheelchair. Later, as Victor demonstrated how to do wheelies in his new wheelchair, he encouraged a young boy who had recently experienced a similar injury. The whole team was inspired by Victor’s testimony of faith. He is grateful and thankful to God for his life and he lives life to the fullest. Victor seeks to make the most of each and every day and his attitude not only humbles us, but inspires us.
