1 Peter 4:10 states, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” This morning, David’s devotional reminded us that our talents are not for our own benefit. God has made us all with a purpose and has given us each unique skills that we can use to bring glory to Him. He has intended for us to use these gifts to serve others wholeheartedly. As stewards as our talents, we need to make sure that we are always using them effectively on earth.
Throughout this week’s mission trip, I was able to witness many faithful servants of God effectively using their talents to help the people of Guatemala. Today was the last day of work for the Askenasy 2019 team, and we couldn’t be more proud of the outcome of this week. Our day ended a little earlier, leaving us time to pack up our supplies and prepare for next year. In four days, we were able to see 88 patients in surgery and performed 95 procedures. In the wheelchair clinic, we visited with 138 patients and provided 107 wheelchairs. We couldn’t have seen this much success if it weren’t for each and every team member’s individual contribution.
We celebrated tonight with a dinner served at Chef Romeo’s restaurant in a different part of town. We shared stories and laughter over a delicious meal as we reflected back on our time here in Guatemala. Dr. Askenasy touched many hearts as he presented every volunteer with a certificate and some words of appreciation for their hard work. It’s been such a blessing to be a part of such an amazing team of people who truly have a heart to serve others. Tomorrow, we are headed to Antigua to enjoy the sights and adventure that Guatemala has to offer!
