Estes Village Team 578 began the morning in Antigua with breakfast and a devotional. We boarded buses and travelled 3 hours away to Sanarate in the Department of El Progreso. We arrived in Sanarate about 10:00 am and began unloading several trucks. The team quickly turned empty school classrooms into operational clinics, where we will begin seeing patients in the morning. In a country where atleast 90% of the population have no access to healthcare, the task seems nearly daunting. But we are each prepared to be of service to those who will cross our paths in the days to come. Tomorrow we will finish setting up the clinics with the help of our Guatemalan volunteers, lovingly referred to as “red hats”.
After the team set up the clinics, we drove to El Progreso to check in to the Hotel Camino Largo, our home for the next 5 nights. From this location, we will spend two days in Sanarate and two days in San Cristobal Acasaguastlan. The afternoon and evening were spent mingling, getting to know one another and bonding for our busy days ahead. Everyone knew this would be our last extended free time.
A final team meeting was held before dinner. Everyone seemed ready to “turn in” yet filled with energy and anticipation about the days that lie ahead.
As always – thank you for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers.
