Today we visited a daycare next to the hospital. We were welcomed by shouts of "Gringo!, gringa!" as we entered the facility. The children were excited to see us and greeted us with high-fives and a welcome song. We were then invited to repay them with a song of our own. After alternating performances which included The Itsy-Bitsy Spider, the Chicken Dance and The Hokey-Pokey, we all moved outside to the play yard to blow some bubbles. The children were having fun, but I suspect we were the ones who would take away lasting memories. Many of the children have been at this same daycare for years and several returning team members have established bonds with certain children. Soap was not the only kind of bubbles in the air - emotions were bubbling up as we neared the end of our visit. These sweet faces, the voices and laughter, and the hugs we received lingered with us long after we said goodbye.
We are the world
We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day, so let's start giving
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day, just you and me
