The patients we see come with their family members, neighbors and friends from their villages from all over the country of Guatemala. They travel by boat, bus, car and on foot to come to our clinic. They are all looking for a solution to their ongoing medical problems. They have HOPE that someone will be able to help give them relief from their pain and suffering. When they arrive they assemble in the courtyard outside our clinic. And we gather with our patients and we pray with them. It is humbling to listen to their prayers as they are not for themselves but for our team and their families back home.

They wait quietly and patiently all day until their name is called. Some of the patients and families wait all day.

Juan Che` is from the village of Aldea Lanzetillo Sacumul in the Providence of Uspantan Quiche`. He travelled 12 hours to the Obras to see Dr. Michael Moore and Ear, Nose and Throat doctor who examined him on Triage day. He presented with a large tumor of the submandibular gland on the left side of his neck. He has suffered with pain and physical deformity for over eight years. After examination he was put on the schedule for surgey the next day. The surgery was anything more than routine and two hours later the tumor was removed.

Dr. Moore said,” We are just doing God’s work and we are the hands and feet of Christ.”

Psalm 34:4

“I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.”
