This is just one example of dozens that could be told this week.
This tiny little lady is Mayan and she traveled from eight hours away by bus for surgery. She speaks a special dialect so she brought her daughter, who is bilingual, to help translate and provide care.
Unfortunately, school was not an option for her growing up, but her daughter said she is very intelligent and has even provided simple medical care to those in her village since she was young because they have no doctors. She learned how to give shots by practicing with oranges to improve her skills and actually still provided care until recently when she began feeling worse.
She has six children although two passed away. Eight years ago her husband developed a bad headache, but was unable to see a doctor and passed away a month later. Her daughter now lives with her to help care for her needs.
She is a weaver and even wove the dress she has on in some of these photos. She has temporarily stopped, but hopes after her surgery she feels better and can begin making beautiful textiles once again.
Although she is not in pain she hopes this surgery will make her happier and live longer. She said she is very at peace about the surgery, trusts God and knows her doctors and nurses will take care of her.
These photos follow her surgical journey and we all pray she improves and continues to set an example of trusting in God!
