Smiles, Blessings, and Gratitude:
What did our team accomplish this week? We provided mobility to people who could not move. We provided hearing to those who could not hear. We helped people breathe. We provided relief from pain and discomfort. We restored normal bodily functions and freed people from catheters. We removed tumors and repaired injuries. Every member of our team allowed this to happen: our anesthesia providers, our scrub techs and nurses, our audiologists, surgeons, medical doctors, occupational therapists, wheelchair assemblers, and administrative team.
What did our team take home from this week? We gained a renewed appreciation for what every member of a team brings to a mission. We made, renewed, and strengthened friendships. We were reminded of the incredible resources that we have available to us back home that we often take for granted. We have the smiles, blessings and gratitude of our Guatemalan patients imprinted on our memories. We saw God’s hand in the interactions between teammates, family members and between people of very different cultures working toward a goal of healing.
During the week, we performed surgery on 74 individuals, fitted 68 hearing aids, and saw 150 mobility patients who received 130 wheelchairs.
We want to be sure to thank our friends, family and others who blessed us with their prayers, thoughts and financial support. The work we did could not happen without all of you.
Blessings,
Julie Moorhead
