Some of us started with a yoga practice at 5:45 am, we were greeted with a beautiful sky, a full moon, and perfect weather.
The whole team met for another delicious breakfast from the Quinta de las Flores staff followed by an insightful devotion from Rebecca.
She shared the story about a prisoner, William Tyndale, who on October 6th, in the year 1536, was taken from a dungeon in Vilvorde castle near Brussels after being in isolation for a year and a half for printing and publishing the Bible in English.
Tyndale was killed for this act but prayed before he died. He felt so strongly we needed the scriptures because they are the standard for distinguishing between truth and error. The scriptures help us remember our relationship to the Lord and the Father.
Then we all walked over to the hospital for a full day of cases.
Dr. Ignacio along with Dr. Tyo and his Anesthesiologist Dr. Beers and Geri, RN performed a TGD on a 10-year-old little girl named Elizabet.
A TGD, a thyroglossal duct cyst, is a mass or lump in the front part of the neck that is filled with fluid. While a baby is developing in the womb, the thyroid gland begins at the base of the tongue. Before birth, the thyroid gland moves in the neck to its usual position below the thyroid cartilage and above the sternum.
Elizabet’s mother said she noticed a mass when Elizabet was 4 years old, she thought it was normal for a few years but it kept getting bigger.
Finally, her uncle urged Elizabets mom to get in to the doctor.
The family didn’t know how they could help their little girl because they didn’t have the money to have this recommended surgery.
Her friend told her about Faith in Practice last year so they traveled to Obras Sociales Del Santo Hermano Pedro in Antigua to see if she was a candidate for surgery.
Mom is so relieved that she is healing in the hospital and will soon be on their way back home.
In another photo, Nurse Rebecca sitting in recovery with a patient who had a mass removed from her head, she feels good and is playing with her new toys, donations from Faith In Practice friends and volunteers.
