As of today, our third day of operations, Team Davis has performed over 50 surgeries. In the last 5 months, Faith in Practice as an organization has served over 800 patients and Casa de Fe has provided those patients with nearly 13000 meals. These kind of results are catalyzed by a hardworking mindset, which our team looks to bring to the hospital every day.
Today, many members of the team expressed their surprise towards the patients’ attitudes during morning rounds. Here in Guatemala, the team noticed how grateful and optimistic the patients are. When asked if they felt alright, many exclaimed that they felt no pain, and thanked the surgeons profusely for their help. They took genuine pleasure in talking to their doctors and expressed a deep gratitude as well as impressive determination to improve.
The Guatemalans, we decided, have a mindset that emphasizes pain as a part of everyday life, which leads to their ability to work harder and live more optimistically. They see obstacles as something that can be overcome as opposed to something that will ruin their day. It was extremely refreshing to see this attitude in our patients, and it encouraged many members of our team to embrace the same mindset as we finish out our week of serving tomorrow. As we look forward to tomorrow, we hope to be as hardworking and positive as the Guatemalan people, confident that we as a team can overcome any obstacle that life throws our way.
