The nighttime rain from the last two days has brought some cool temperatures that gave us a beautiful walk to the hospital this morning.

Yesterday was our first day of surgeries. For any team, adapting to a new environment and the available equipment would be difficult, but I saw our surgeons, scrub techs, and nurses quickly adapt and do what I can best describe as miraculous things.

I was even more sure of this when we got to the hospital this morning and did the morning rounds to check on the patients from yesterday. Yesterday Soemia, who you might remember from the blog, was breathing deeply with a grimace of pain on her face when I spoke with her in pre-op. This morning she was smiling and conversing with the nurses and the women in the beds next to her. She was not the only patient who had gone through such a change in demeanor. Many patients who I had seen in pain or nervousness on Sunday and Monday were now cheerful. I am sure God has worked through our volunteers and the wonderful Obras staff to create these transformations.

Today things went more smoothly as our team has become accustomed to working here. I think everyone is hitting their stride, and we were able to see many patients today. Tomorrow we have another full day of cases, and I can’t wait to keep getting to know our team and the patients.
