Sunday – Triage Day – one of the busiest days!  Rise and shine early!

John led a beautiful Morning Devotional and welcomed us into the day where “God goes before us and prepares everything.”

Sergio Lopez, the director of Hospital Hilario Galindo (HHG), welcomed Faith In Practice
(FIP) Team 775 to the hospital and introduced the HHG staff. Megan then presented Sergio and the HHG team with a beautiful photo of a mountain landscape in Washington, where many of our volunteers are from. The photo was taken by Keri, a former volunteer who was with FIP for many years. Megan shared that “this is a symbol of our connection to Reu and how important Guatemala and Hilario Galindo are to us.

John opened an intimate prayer circle where our team stood in a semi-circle surrounding the patients. As John prayed openly for the patients, the patients stood up and joined in prayer. It was a very powerful and sacred moment for us all. He also led a morning worship at 9 am for the patients patiently waiting outside. It was so inspiring to hear him and the patients singing in Spanish together.

Rocky introduced the team to the operating room area (Salas 1-4), pre and post-op, and recovery where he stressed the importance of working with the equipment they have and being flexible. It was fascinating to hear about working in unison with the humidity in order to keep the instruments sterile.

Patients met with the doctors for screening and scheduling. They also met with our anesthesiologists for evaluation and to discuss the process for the day of their surgeries.

We were fortunate to meet with and hear some of the patients’ stories.

Ana Rosa, from Reu, came to HHG for a gallbladder surgery and has waited six months.  Her pain affects her daily but walking seems to help.  Her daughter is waiting patiently with her.

Joselin, from Reu as well, also came to HHG for a gallbladder surgery, and has been waiting for a year and a half. She learned about Faith In Practice from Facebook and her neighbors. Her pain affects her daily life, and she is unable to work due to the pain. This also affects her family at home. She is looking forward to feeling better. “The doctors do great surgeries here.”

Gailyn, 23, from Reu, had hernia surgery, and came back to HHG for a follow-up visit.

Melecio, 71, traveled from 2 hours away. He has waited four years for a hernia surgery and lives with the pain daily.
