July 4th-Day One

We began our morning with devotional. Our reelection this morning touched on our freedoms in preparation of us moving forward. Our freedom to serve God and the people of Guatemala. On this day in America, Independence Day, we counted our blessings of coming from a country of wealth, health and countless opportunities. We thought about our future patients, their culture, and the journey they have had to endure to get here, during a pandemic. We reflected upon what they have to endure moving forward, surgery and recovery, and hopefully, back to their lives better than before.

Luis, the Director of Operations for FIP, shared with us one of the biggest lessons they’ve learned throughout the pandemic. The pandemic has taught everyone how to slow down and do things more mindfully. While COVID has limited the amount of people we can serve, it’s alternatively allowed for us to bring more quality to the care we deliver.

The team worked diligently to prepare the OR’s, preop, PACU, and pharmacy for our weeks work. The teamwork was amazing and the support of the FIP team was awesome. When we returned to the hotel, we gathered and talked, got to know one another, and really became family. We ended the evening with the perfect celebration of our leader, Dr Farrow’s birthday. Thanks again to the amazing staff of FIP for providing a beautiful and delicious birthday cake!
