Rev. Cheryl Gans led us in a reflection of listening to God and to others at our morning devotion. Later, at a morning briefing each member of our team introduced themselves and how they got involved with Faith In Practice. The stories were similar: one or more people was invited by a friend to join. As a result, their lives were changed in many ways and they feel called to return and to encourage others. How thankful each of us is that someone felt God’s call to tell us about this mission. Faith In Practice continues to change our lives. We are here to encourage our sisters and brothers in Guatemala at a time when, unlike the US, vaccines are still off in the distance. The Guatemalans’ faith in the future is strong and it inspires us.
After a three-hour bus ride to our village site, Samayuc, Suchitepequez, we set up a new sort of clinic in the gym of the Catholic church. We are using surgical drapes as walls. Four groups of 36 patients will be seen every two hours tomorrow by our six medical providers. Much like in the US, patients are screened for Covid symptoms at the door. PPE is worn by all providers and each patient will be given a fresh mask to wear in the clinic. Triage will occur behind plexi-glass. All of our team is vaccinated.
