Any early morning windy bus ride from Antigua landed Team Wells in Momostenange, in the department of Totanicapán. Volunteers–locals and from the U.S.–lined up to unload the truck and the setting up took off! In about three hours volunteers worked in groups to turn classrooms into clinics: general medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, dental, via-cryo, and wheelchair. Our fabulous pharmacists set up their trunks to give out prescribed medications.
Wheelchairs shipped flat in boxes and are assembled by a crew led by a Faith In Practice assembly expert. Metal tubing gets screwed together. Seats and backs are laced around metal. Care guides each step as does cooperative building. Wheelchairs transform lives. And these ones are assembled with love.
Clear guidance from the leaders and people’s willingness to not only do everything that needs doing but operate out of excellence made the set-up smooth. True team work from start to finish. Team Wells is ready to be of service first thing tomorrow morning.
