“When I was young, I thought that money was the most important thing in life; now that I am old, I know that it is.” ― Oscar Wilde
“I am not sure exactly what heaven will be like, but I know that when we die and it comes time for God to judge us, He will not ask, ‘How many good things have you done in your life?’ rather He will ask, ‘How much love did you put into what you did?” ― Mother Teresa
“Love is life. And if you miss love, you miss life.” – Leo Buscaglia

34 When the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together, 35 and one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. 36 “Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?” 37 He said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the greatest and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” (Matthew 22:34-40)

What guides the way people live their lives? Is it the pursuit of happiness? Is it the survival of the fittest? Is it to make money? Is it to care for family? Is it to serve others? Is it to better one’s position in life? Is it to make a difference? Is it to get ahead? And what is the purpose of life? The Pharisees asked Jesus what should have priority in life. Jesus repeated a commandment that had been around for a long time – – love God with everything you have! Then Jesus offered another commandment that was similar – – love your neighbor as yourself! It’s all about love and love is the way! I believe we show our love for God by loving our neighbor. What guides the way you live your life?
As we begin our Faith in Practice medical mission I know what motivated doctors and workers to volunteer to give up a week of the year in service to help those in need. How would you answer Mother Teresa’s question, “How much love do you put into what you do?”
Prayer: Gracious God, help me put more love into what I do! Amen.
