Today found Team Raymer arriving at Hospital Hilario Galindo bright and early, with patients already there! We were greeted by the hospital administrator, medical director, and doctor. The local hospital staff were introduced and preparations for the week began. The operating room staff unpacked supplies, dispersing them throughout the operating rooms. Patients were triaged on the clinic side. Each patient had their vital signs checked, saw a medical doctor, an anesthesia provider, and met with a surgeon. All laboratory tests were performed before the patients arrived, but some were sent for more testing. There was also an opportunity for patients and/or family members to get much needed eye glasses, thanks to RestoringVision! Armed with hundreds of eye glasses, volunteers from Team Raymer helped numerous patients and/or family members with prescriotion reading glasses and sunglasses!

One of the patients, Yesica, stood out to Suzanne, a Team Raymer translator. Yesica, 26, is here to have her gallbladder out. To earn a living, she and her husband make 1,200 tortillas a day and roast corn on the cob. Yesica has to make and carry the dought to where they sell them, and she is having to do this with a sprained ankle. She is very grateful for the a chance to have this life-changing surgery.
After all this work was completed, the team was able to construct a schedule of surgeries for the upcoming week. Tomorrow, the team will start operating and ultimately change the lives of many patients.
