We started our day at 6:30am with breakfast; then we had our devotional time at 7:30. Lucho Llanca is our Team Pastor for the week. He is originally from Venezuela and he shared his story with us about how a chance encounter with a missionary in his hometown eventually led to his career working for Young Life in Houston, Texas. His message was one of “LOVE” and how none of us really know how our current actions may play out in the years to come in the lives of the people we touch. Grateful to have him with us this year.
The Guatemalan patients and volunteers are so grateful to see Faith In Practice return to their country after over a year’s absence. The Guatemalan people have suffered on a level greater than we can imagine with their entire medical system shut down for the last year and a half and their country already burdened by chronic poverty. We are ready to serve this week and give them HOPE for the future as we learn from their resilience and positivity.
Scripture: Luke 8:42-49
42 because his only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying.
As Jesus was on his way, the crowds almost crushed him. 43 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years,[a] but no one could heal her. 44 She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.
45 “Who touched me?” Jesus asked.
When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.”
46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.”
47 Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. 48 Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.”
49 While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” he said. “Don’t bother the teacher anymore.”
