See Picture 1: Alejandro is 18 years old and is the only patient who declined to be photographed on Sunday. He is here in Antigua with his dad. He was hit by a car when he was 10 years old, and the disruption in his growth plate caused his right femur to warp as it grew. On Monday Dr. Dawson operated on Alejandro to straighten out his leg. The photo shows his leg straightened after surgery. He will be able to walk much better and become more active from now on.
See Picture 2: Carlos injured his femur and knee in a motorcycle accident in December 2017. He has had 2 surgeries elsewhere. A client who had surgery with FiP told him about the organization.
Today Carlos did well, and Dr. Dawson anticipates that he will experience a full recovery. -Catherine Cahill, M.D.:
See Picture 3: Marta is 64 years old. She is here for a right knee replacement. She heard about FiP from a friend who had surgery here. Her niece came with her by Über from Via Nueva, about 2 hours away.
Today surgery went well. No complications. -Nicholas Lee, M.D.:
See Picture 4: Carlos has crooked fingers after an accident working with woodcutting machinery three years ago, in 2020. He is from Santa Rosa, and a FiP village team referred him for surgery.
Dr. Lee straightened out two of Carlos’ fingers today. He did well and should experience a satisfactory recovery. -Brinkley Sandvall, M.D.:
See Picture 5: Patricia is here for hand surgery. She was referred by a friend who had surgery with FiP. She lives in Guatemala City and came by herself, but her stepdaughter lives in Antigua and will take care of her.
Patricia’s case is called a trigger finger release. Her right middle finger was permanently bent. Now she will be able to straighten it.
