Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Matthew 11:28

This will be our theme verse for the week…and what a powerful verse it is, especially in the context of how the Guatemalan people we expect to meet each day live here.  Today we were challenged to think of ourselves and our team as offering the compassion of Jesus in our patient encounters this week. We were deputized into providing compassionate care.

Team 764 consists of 29 medical providers and support folks from all over the US:  Houston, El Paso, Seattle area, Minnesota,  Michigan, including 2 from Guatemala. We are joined by 20 FIP staff, 22 local Guatemalan volunteers.  We expect to see 1100+ patients, referring some for surgeries, treating others for chronic illnesses, and for others just listening to their troubles.

We don’t know what God has in store for us; we don’t know if we’ll have enough medicine to heal, but we will do our best to serve with compassion as Jesus did.

Our clinics are ready.  Tomorrow the patients will come with hope.
