Hello Archana Thomas here, blogger for Team Askenasy 743! This is my first trip and am so excited to share my experiences with you. It is wonderful to see Faith In Practice continuing in serving while trying to be safe with the pandemic. We had people fly from Houston, Chicago, Michigan and Atlanta, and made it safe to Guatemala.
It was amazing to meet many people from different cultures and backgrounds willing to give up their week to help others. I had the opportunity to meet and get to know doctors, nurses and volunteers who have been doing this for many years and see their commitment to keep serving. The common theme I’ve been hearing is that they enjoy giving back and find it fulfilling to assist others and see the smiles of Guatemalans.
It took us 7 hours to get from the airport in Guatemala City to Retalhuleu, which gave some people time to catch up and others like me to get to know everyone. From my understanding tomorrow is an early day and we will be setting up to see patients for the next few days. I am delighted to take you on this journey with me as we serve and hear the stories of the citizens of Guatemala.
