Today was travel day and boy was it a long one, but well worth it in the end. There are definitely the veterans of the group and then first timers, like myself. I know I woke up this morning with excitement for the adventure ahead, as well as anxiety over all the unknowns. I know I wasn’t alone in these feelings. Upon boarding the plane, you quickly realize with a sea of blue Faith in Practice shirts, that you are not alone in this and you are set up with an amazing support group of people all wanting to make a difference.

After a long day of travel, we arrived in the beautiful city of Antiqua surrounded by volcanoes in the southern part of Guatemala. Since the start of COVID, this is Dr. Pogo’s first medical mission back to Antiqua, with the majority of his team members coming from Wisconsin. The team is comprised of four departments: ENT, Orthopedics, Gynecology and General Medicine.

Upon arrival at the hotel, it is as if we were transported to an oasis void of chaos. The grounds are immaculate with absolutely gorgeous vegetation, a truly calming space to fall back on at the end of a stressful day.
