Greetings from Guatemala. My name is Therese, and I will be your photojournalist for the week.
After months of preparation, the highly anticipated day arrived for Team 762 to travel to Guatemala. There were challenges along the way, including a lady whose passport didn’t arrive in time due to Passport Office backlog. The majority of us departed from DFW in Texas or Roanoke in Virginia.
At the DFW airport, there were plenty of hugs with friends we hadn’t seen in a year or more as well as meeting new team members for the first time. Although this is my 11th trip here, I still vividly remember the excitement of the first trip, and that same anticipation was evident on the faces of our new team members.
With the assistance of DFW Airport staff, we checked in all our trunks of medical supplies. Upon arrival in Guatemala City, following an easy traverse through Customs, we boarded buses for our destination in Antigua. We encountered quite a bit of Saturday traffic and arrived at the Quinta de las Flores, our home for the next week, around 6 p.m.
We gathered for a team meeting and orientation, followed by dinner. Most of us turned in early, knowing we would have a busy day on Sunday. Just about the time lights went out, the fireworks started, a celebration of a wedding at a nearby church. Sleep soon followed.
