Good morning! Today is the final day of surgery. As we all woke up for breakfast and devotional it was a nice surprise to see that the clouds have cleared some and we were able to see the mountains/volcanoes surrounding Antigua. Some of us were even able to see the volcano “vog”, which is when the volcano spits out gas and ash. After breakfast, we had another devotional dedicated to the ending of this mission, done by Karen Preston.
Back at the hospital, it is a very similar schedule as the past few days. The surgeons went and rounded on their patients from yesterday and began to see their patients for today. Although we ran into some technical issues at the hospital today, everyone was able to persevere and power through the day. For the patients that were not able to receive surgery today, we hope they have a safe surgery when other teams come to Guatemala in July or the next coming months. Aside from these difficulties, everyone is very excited to go out and explore the city tonight and tomorrow.
Tonight we have a special team dinner at Casa Santo Domingo a local hotel/restaurant/museum. The grounds were beautiful and the food was delicious! Even more special than the food were the reflections on the trip. Everyone received recognition for their hard work throughout this week. As well as a thank you and goodbye/see you later to Karen and Paul Preston as they retire as group leaders at Faith In Practice. They have both done an incredible job over the years, improving FIP and making life-long connections. After a bit of an emotional end to our team dinner, we headed back to the hotel on the bus.
