Blog day 1:
Hello from Antigua Guatemala! I am your blog writer, Cece Crotzer. This is my first time participating in a Faith In Practice trip, and I am so excited to see what the week entails!
The day started off early with a team breakfast and devotional. Our verse for the week is “we love because God first loved us” 1 John 4:19. We then talked about how the most important thing humans yearn for is unconditional love. This kind of love is always given to us by God!
We then headed over to see the hospital and have our orientation. We were given a tour of the hospital and then headed to our assigned clinics or to set up the ORs. Time to get to work!
Story of the day! Dr. McCrery had a patient who drove all the way from Guatemala City! This drive ended up 3 hours to the hospital. She heard of the hospital through a friend who had a successful operation. She told me that she found the hospital bc one of her friends had a successful surgery here. I then asked how she was feeling for her upcoming surgery. She informed me that she was very relieved to be receiving the surgery to relieve her pain.
The day ended early, which meant more time to spend at the beautiful hotel! Before I knew it, it was time to go to dinner. After lots of great food and even better conversation we witnessed the eruption of Fugo the volcano! That doesn’t happen every day. What a great first day, looking forward to the rest of the week!
