Day 1: What Time is It?
Scripture: Ecclesiastes 3:1-5 (NRSV) “For everything there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven.”
1 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
2 a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
3 a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 a time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together.
It is one of my favorite times of the year — a time to serve those in need on our Faith in Practice Medical Mission Trip to Guatemala! Our Chenault/Hayes Village team of 25 US doctors, workers and translators combine efforts with 25 Guatemalan workers and 40 local volunteers for a time to heal over 1,000 patients in the upcoming 4 days. We got off to a rough start as our group from Houston was delayed over 5 hours because of airplane engine, bathroom, and flight crew issues (kind of a weird combination). We had a time to wait, a time to board, a time to wait, a time to deplane, a time to wait, a time to board, a time to fly and finally a time to land! We finally made it to Antigua late last night and today we set up our clinic in El Progreso. All of the workers are taking time away from work, family, vacation to make time to help others. It is amazing to see how much can be accomplish when the whole team unites effort and energy.
Inspiring Quote: “Wherever you are, be all there.” — Jim Elliot
Prayer: Lord, help me embrace this time You have given me. Let me be fully present, trusting in Your timing and purpose. Amen.
