Day 5: Wednesday, March 5, 2025 // FIP Blog
After yesterday’s intense workout, this morning’s yoga session was a welcome relief. The cool morning air and gentle stretches provided a much-needed reset, preparing our bodies and minds for another full day.
During morning devotionals, Gavin led us through the story of Joseph and his forgiveness of his brothers for their betrayal. He challenged us to reflect on those we may still need to forgive in our own lives. It was a humbling moment, a reminder that healing isn’t just physical—it’s also found in grace, mercy, and letting go of past burdens.
Back at the hospital, the day’s work mirrored much of yesterday’s, though the challenges remained significant. Many of yesterday’s surgeries were complex, with multiple revisions for patients who had undergone previous procedures. The dedication and skill of our surgical teams were put to the test, but they rose to the occasion with unwavering focus and compassion. Today our teams completed 25 surgeries with 4 hips, 15 knees, and 6 foot & ankles.
Today’s Hero: The Surgical Teams
The surgeons, nurses, and support staff who make these life-changing operations possible deserve immense recognition. Today’s procedures included several difficult revisions, some lasting up to three hours, but our team handled them all. Being some of the best orthopedic surgical teams in our country isn’t the only thing that stands out about them though. They’re also world-class because it’s their philosophy to serve as many people as possible and turn away as few as they can. Their commitment is not just to performing surgeries but to restoring hope and mobility for every person who comes through their doors.
Yovita’s Story: A Journey of Faith and Perseverance
Yovita’s journey to healing was not an easy one. A young woman in her mid-twenties traveled 11 hours from her hometown to receive surgery. The journey alone cost $250—an immense sum for her family. Her pain began years ago when she fell from a moving vehicle, severely injuring her hip.
Despite her suffering, Yovita’s determination never wavered. She pushed through school, though the emotional and social toll of her condition left her feeling discouraged. As she grew older, the pain became unbearable, forcing her to stop studying and focus solely on work. Coming from a deeply spiritual Catholic family, she and her loved ones turned to prayer, asking God to provide a way.
Medical care seemed out of reach, with private surgery options ranging from $25,000 to $35,000—an impossible cost. But then, in God’s perfect timing, she found Team Hope in Motion. Today, with a new hip, she no longer has to live in pain. She expressed her excitement about returning to her studies in 2026 or even sooner, eager to embrace the future that once felt so uncertain.
Beyond the physical healing, Yovita’s story is one of renewed faith—not just in God but in people. She has seen firsthand that she is not alone and that there are those who care and will stand by her in times of need. With her new hip, she can walk without pain, return to work, and continue her education with confidence.
Each day here is a testament to God’s provision, the dedication of our medical team, and the resilience of our patients. Yovita’s journey, like so many others, reminds us that healing is not just about the body—it’s about restoring hope, rebuilding faith, and stepping into the life God has planned.
Tomorrow brings another day of surgeries, recoveries, and transformations. Thank you for keeping Team HIM and our patients in your prayers.
