Day 2: Sunday, March 2, 2025 // FIP Blog
Hello from Antigua- Day 2!
After a hearty breakfast and devotional led by Gavin, we embarked on our first journey of the week to Las Obras Sociales del Santo Hermano Pedro Hospital. It felt ironic to walk the cobblestone streets, taking in the volcanic views, and to witness a part of a footrace taking place on our way. So much freedom for some, and so much need for those waiting down the road.
Once we arrived, our team had an orientation and went to work. We split into two groups, one prepping the equipment and surgical rooms while the other was at the triage clinic. Both teams worked like clockwork to get everything accomplished.
The courtyard waiting areas were flooded with hundreds of people as our patients sat with their loved ones and waited their turn to meet. It was moving to witness just how many lives will be impacted by this week. In total, our surgical teams met with 130 individuals, ranging from children to the elderly, for life-changing surgery. The majority of the surgeries are planned to take place this week or in the near future at Faith in Practice.
Watching how our team worked together today, I’m reminded of Philippians 1:3-6:
“3 I thank my God every time I remember you. 4 In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, 6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (NIV)
There’s something special about seeing God work through a dedicated team of people to impact the lives of others in such a tangible way. Here’s to seeing how God will carry His works on through the team throughout this next week.
Best,
Randy
