It was a long travel day for the Wani 844 Team, with a ramp-up in anticipation, as we reconnected with old friends at the airport, and started to make connections to those who will undoubtedly be new friends by the end of the week.
Hearing some lulls in the conversations, as we trudged through traffic on the way to Antigua, there was a quick “Wheels on the Bus” singalong (complete with all the elementary hand motions that go along with it), followed by some classic rock and roll to pass the time.
After reaching Antigua, we had a quick orientation before dinner, as our groups arrived and continued to connect and reconnect. The first-year team members got to hear from FIP and Obras staff about what they could expect in the coming week, with team introductions including a question about favorite hobbies. If anyone is interested is sewing, knitting, and pickle ball…along with changing lives in Guatemala…we’re your people!
It was an early night for everyone, although there were some winding down chats that could be heard as our group of nearly 40 headed to their rooms and casitas, catching some needed rest before triage day tomorrow, anxious to see what stories unfold.
