FUN – today’s word of the day.
Specifically, fun in the sun, though today was no picnic!
The team includes many members that participated last year, so we know we have serious business in the upcoming days, despite that (or maybe because of it), day one of travel to the clinic and set up was not short of light hearted moments.
More than one team member mentions it is like no time has gone by at all, we are picking up where we left off last year. It is great to see everyone, old faces and new.
Today was a day for new things, the whole team boarded a flight together to reach the destination where we will be serving, which significantly cut down on travel time. Airport to bag drop off and then straight to the school for the much anticipated truck unloading and clinic set up.
We each take on whatever loads we can handle, some more than others, each with a smile on our faces (some goofier than others). Everyone is lending a hand where needed, getting a jump start wherever possible, we are clearly looking forward to welcoming patients tomorrow!
The tablets for recording patient information and managing the steps in patient care are also a novelty for many. The team asks lots of questions, everyone is eager to get it right in order to get this well oiled machine up and running smoothly for the next few days, and ultimately for the digital approach to help improve the patient’s path in future care.
It took a village to get us here, many steps in a complex process have led us to today, day one, we are now set up, and tomorrow we meet the patients. Tomorrow, we start meeting the people that are the reason we are all here.
