Today was our second full day in Antigua, Guatemala. After a quick breakfast, which consisted of sunny-side-up eggs and chilaquiles, a sort of Guatemalan breakfast nachos, we held our daily devotional. Today’s lesson highlighted the importance of trusting God during new experiences, as demonstrated in the story of Jacob and Esau. Even in foreign countries that were far from home, Jacob trusted God’s plan and knew that He was right beside him, no matter the circumstances.
After our devotional, the team headed once again to Obras Sociales del Santo Hermano Pedro Hospital and began pre-op work while the rest of the team prepared the OR’s. After talking with the patients to address any potential concerns, the surgeons began the first of the day’s many operations. Everything went smoothly, from hernias to neurofibromas, and the team worked together in a remarkably efficient manner. Before we knew it, our first day was behind us.
We returned to La Casa de Los Flores for dinner, bonding with one another over a delicious meal. We reflected on the day’s successes and looked for ways to further streamline and improve the process for the next day. After dinner, we went to bed with excited anticipation for tomorrow’s cases.
