Faith In Practice is turning 25! It is with awe and wonder that we approach this year that we have chosen to call By Faith. The theme comes from Hebrews 11:1-12:2. The reading begins with: “Now faith is being sure of what we hope of and certain of what we do not see.” It ends with: “Since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses…let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” Between these two familiar verses is a litany of examples of those who have lived and died by faith throughout the centuries. Always, by faith.
Every one of those mentioned between the Hebrews verses had successes and failures. They were faithful and they stumbled in their faith. In their lives, there was great joy, and great sadness. What binds them together, however, is their faith, their trust, in God, who was and who shall ever be faithful to them.
In like fashion, as we look back on these 25 years, we stand in wonder of all those who acted By Faith through this mission. Their successes, their failures, their joys, and their struggles. And, yet, over the past twenty-five years, they always trusted in God’s faithfulness. This is what binds them together as one community. And, this is what binds us together as Faith In Practice.
As we celebrate these twenty-five years, we will focus on how those, past and present, have stepped out in faith without knowing what would happen, trusting that God was leading them forward. Trusting that God has and shall forever take our offerings of faith and create something new. Create something greater, infused with abundant love and grace, than anything we could have dreamed of or planned. And, as we celebrate the past twenty-five years that have been blessed by God’s faithfulness, we shall look forward to the next twenty-five years, stepping out by faith. We shall trust, without knowing what will happen, as those before us. We shall believe, and we know that God shall surely create something new through Faith In Practice. By Faith.
