MONDAY BLOG
Today was our first day of clinic. We woke up to a magnificently, cool, crisp morning. The native birds in the resort where we are staying were singing and flying around as they enjoyed the sun coming up.
Following our devotional we boarded our buses at 7:15 am to head out for the medical clinic. Arriving at the clinic the 8 am patients were lined up and waiting for the doors to open.
We quickly got to our various stations and the patients started entering. Throughout the day patient appointments were scheduled in two hour increments.
Sweet, beautiful people, the Guatemalans. While they wait patiently to get into see the appropriate doctors and nurses several have asked to take a picture with them. The children, with their beautiful brown eyes, are fascinated by all of us walking around in scrubs.
I sat in a pediatric visit or two. Unfortunately, so many patients have mobility challenges but they are so grateful for the new blue wheelchairs provided through our mobility clinic. Gynecology and general medicine are probably seeing the most patients. The people wait quietly for their turn to see the doctors.
We have three different teams of volunteers putting together the wheelchairs. In my spare time while not writing or sending pics back to the states I have helped with that task a bit.
We are very grateful God has allowed overcast skies much of this afternoon. The breeze and fans are awesome as well!!
We will close down as soon as the last patient is seen. Our oldest patient today was a 109 female patient as alert as she could be.
Stay tuned!
